Obituary for Dominic J. Ferraro

DOMINIC JOSEPH FERRARO, 90, of 3900 16th Street, N.W., Washington, D.C., formerly of Pittsfield, died Tuesday, September 19, of cardiovascular disease at the
Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C.
Born in Boston, May 11, 1916, the son of Francesco and Maria Cortale Ferraro,
he grew up in Pittsfield and was a 1934 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
During World War II, he joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in North Africa,
France, and Italy between 1941 and 1945.
Following his discharge, Mr. Ferraro moved to Washington, D.C., and began his
career with the U.S. Government. He worked with the Veterans Administration and with
the Chief of Finance for the U.S. Army. In 1959, he joined the Department of the Navy,
Naval Air Systems Command where he worked until his retirement in 1976. Following
his retirement, he continued doing financial system consulting until the age of82.
While in Pittsfield, he was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
He enjoyed writing poetry, some of which has been published. His former wife, Mary L. DelSignore Ferraro, whom he married in 1951, died
November 29, 1977.
Mr. Ferraro is survived by his daughter, Miss Mary Louise Ferraro of Cambridge,
Massachusetts.

FUNERAL NOTICE; A graveside service for DOMINIC J. FERRARO, who died September 19, will
be held Friday, September 29, at 11:30 a.m., at St. Joseph's Cemetery, with Rev. Isaac
Keeley of St. Joseph's Abbey in Spencer, Massachusetts, officiating. A time of visitation
will precede from 10:30 to 11:15 at DERY FUNERAL HOME. In lieu of flowers,
contributions in memory of Mr. Ferraro may be made to the American Cancer Society in
care of the Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.Mr. Ferraro, remembered as a quiet and unassuming man, also leaves two
nephews, Joseph J. Ferraro, Jr. and Joseph E. Mendonca, Jr.; three nieces, Mary Suzanne
Harrison, Evelyn M. Croughwell, and Mary Jane Ferraro; his friends, Trudy Oliver,
Maria Carmouze, Garfield Adams, Alfredo Hernandez, Adelina Ramos, and Kathy
Lotspeich, and all the residents at Crestwood Apartments in Washington, D.C., who were
so dear to him.
He was pre-deceased by two brothers, James P. Ferraro and Joseph J. Ferraro, and
by a sister, Virginia N. Mendonca.
