Obituary for David V. Sperlonga Sr.

DAVID VINCENT SPERLONGA, SR., 85, of 686 Pecks Road, Pittsfield, died Monday, April 4, 2011, at Berkshire Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Pittsfield on August 15, 1925, a son of Ceasar and Virginia Marby
Sperlonga, he was educated in Pittsfield schools and was a graduate of Pittsfield High
School. A World War II veteran, Mr. Sperlonga enlisted with the United States Navy on
July 7, 1943, served as a Coxswain aboard the U.S.S. Arkansas, and was honorably discharged, having received numerous medals and many with stars, on March 8, 1946.
Mr. Sperlonga was last employed by the City of Pittsfield Redevelopment Authority where he worked for ten years. Previously, he had been an Iron Worker with Local 12 for many years. He had also been the owner-operator of Dave's Precast Concrete Works for many years.
Mr. Sperlonga had been a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He enjoyed fine craft woodworking, gardening, and golfing. He also enjoyed
cooking and specialized in homemade pizza.
Mr. Sperlonga's wife, the former M. Elaine Gillette, whom he married November
17, 1946, in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, died May 14, 1994.
He is survived by two daughters, Donna E. Borden of Richmond and Lori J.
Bertoldi and her husband, Edward, of Pittsfield; two sons, David W. Sperlonga, Jr., of
Palm Springs, California, and Gary J. Sperlonga, Sr., and his wife, Vicki, of Pittsfield;
a brother, Anthony Sperlonga and his wife, Ramona, of Pittsfield, a sister, Margaret
Gregory and her husband, Unico, of Dalton; twelve grandchildren, James J. Borden,
Shaun M. Borden, Joseph J. Borden, Jr., Darrin Sperlonga, Devin Sperlonga, Danielle
Sperlonga, Caitlyn J. Bertoldi, Lindsay E. Bertoldi, David Bertoldi, Gary Sperlonga,
Jr., Erica L. Sperlonga, and Scott Stone, and twelve great grandchildren.
He was pre-deceased by a sister, Laura Curley, and a son-in-law, Joseph J.
Borden, Sr.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for DAVID VINCENT SPERLONGA, SR., will be private with
burial to be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers,
contributions in memory of Mr. Sperlonga may be made to Make-A-Wish in care of the
DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
