Obituary for Daniel M. Reed
Daniel M. Reed, 67, of 43 Howard Street, Pittsfield, died Wednesday, February 12, 2014, at his
home.
Born in Boston on September 20, 1946, a son of Daniel B. and Marguerite Mahoney Reed, he was educated in Pittsfield Catholic schools and was a 1964 graduate of St. Joseph Central High School.
A Viet Nam War veteran, he served with the United States Army from August 1971 to July 1972.
At the time of his death, Mr. Reed was employed as a bartender at DelGallo Restaurant on Newell Street, where he had worked for 40 years. He had, at one time, worked for The Berkshire Eagle.
Mr. Reed was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church and was a member of The Elks Club.
He was also a member of the Pittsfield American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars posts.
He loved his grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. He also enjoyed horse
racing.
Mr. Reed leaves his wife, the former Ann Higgins, whom he married February 5, 1972, in Our
Lady of the Valley Church, in Sheffield.
He is also survived by two sons, Joseph M. Reed of Pittsfield and Kevin F. Reed and his wife,
Theresa Gennari Reed, of Hinsdale; four daughters, Theresa M. Reed of Pittsfield, Kathleen L. Reed of
Pittsfield, Jessica A. Kratka and her husband, James, of Pittsfield, and Elizabeth M. Reed of Pittsfield; a brother, Richard E. Reed, of Pittsfield; as well as six grandchildren, Rebecca Kratka, Samantha Kratka, Jacob Kratka, Emily Kratka, Crystal Townsend, and Patrick Lorenz; as well as several nieces and
nephews and his sisters-in-law; Diann Reed and Jane Reed.
He was pre-deceased by his twin brother, Thomas Reed, and another brother, Michael Reed.
FUNERAL NOTICE:
Funeral services for Daniel M. Reed will be held Saturday, February 15, at 10:15 a.m., from DERY
FUNERAL HOME with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m., at Sacred Heart Church. Calling hours will be today from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the
Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes
Association in care of the Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
