Obituary for Daniel J. LaDouceur

Daniel Joseph LaDouceur, 52, of Pittsfield, passed away from a courageous battle with a life long illness on June 13, 2022 at his home.

Born in Pittsfield, MA on August 12, 1969, he was the son of Edward and Constance Church LaDouceur. A communicant of St. Joseph’s Church, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was proud of his faith.

Danny loved his family with all of his being. He was an adoring father and immensely proud of his two children, Emily LaDouceur and Andy LaDouceur. He enjoyed walks alongside his dog Hazel, his unofficial third child, and embraced the fresh air at the State Forest. He was passionate about music and would take his children to many concerts over the years, instilling in them a taste for the classics, specifically Rod Stewart and Fleetwood Mac. His children were well versed in the catalog of Peter Frampton long before they were old enough to drive and sang alongside him in the car as they made their way to and from Cape Cod each summer. He loved a good lobster in the sunshine and sitting in the sand while looking off into the surf. He raised two old souls.

He was a devoted son. Dan ensured each and every day that his parents were well cared for as they aged together. He regularly made time for family dinner and never missed a holiday, or the opportunity to carve the turkey. He loved his brothers and his sister and always looked back fondly on the memories they had created together as a family.

Dan was educated in Pittsfield schools and was a 1987 graduate of Taconic High School’s carpentry program. He worked as a self-employed carpenter and landlord alongside his father for many years. He used his skills and talent in his trade to build a beautiful home for his family where his children were raised. Each winter he spent hours shoveling snow and carving out “Whoville” igloos with them in the front yard. His creativity was funneled into his gardening; he always knew which plants would be in bloom and kept that same yard full of colorful flowers in the spring and summer.

In addition to his parents and his children, Danny is survived by a brother, John F. LaDouceur of Virginia, a sister Michele LaDouceur of North Adams and was predeceased by a brother, Michael LaDouceur. He leaves behind many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Kellie J. Demary of Pittsfield, who never stopped caring for him even after their marriage ended and his illness took ahold of him.

He will be missed by anyone and everyone who was lucky enough to have known this beautiful man. His smile, bright blue eyes and infectious sense of humor will live on forever in our hearts. We will miss you, Dad.
