Obituary for Corporal Thomas H. "TJ" Perrea Jr.

Corporal Thomas Henry Perrea, Jr., 31, of 26 Marco Drive, Pittsfield, died
suddenly at his home on Thursday, February 7, 2013.
Born in Pittsfield on June 18, 1981, he was the son of Thomas H. Perrea, Sr. and Marie Curley Perrea. "TJ", as he was called by his family, was educated in Pittsfield schools and was a 1999 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
Corporal Perrea enlisted with the United States Marine Corps on April 21, 2003.
He served as an aviation supply specialist for three and a half years. He was stationed in Iwakuni, Japan, for one year, and had also served a tour of duty in Iraq. Among other letters and certificates of commendation, Corporal Perrea was awarded the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, and the Rifle Marksman badge. He was honorably discharged on April 20, 2007.
TJ enjoyed playing the guitar. He also enjoyed playing hockey and had been a member of the Taconic High School Hockey team. He had a great sense of humor. TJ's greatest joy was spending time with his son.
Besides his parents, TJ is survived by his fiancée, Juliette Schmeelk and their
5-year-old son, Matthew Thomas Perrea of New Windsor, New York; a sister, Melissa Perrea of Pittsfield; a brother, Christopher M. Perrea of Pittsfield; his paternal grandparents, Oliver and Avis Smith Perrea of Pittsfield; his maternal grandfather, Francis L. Curley, Sr., of Lee; as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins, and his nephew, Malakai Lytle, who will all miss him.
TJ was predeceased by his maternal grandmother, Mary Curley, his cousin, Justin
Savrine, and his uncle, Michael A. Curley.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services, with military honors, for Corporal Thomas "TJ" Henry Perrea , Jr. will be held Friday, February 15, at 9:15 a.m. from DERY FUNERAL HOME with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m., at St. Charles Church celebrated by Rev. Peter A. Gregory, Pastor. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Matthew Thomas Perrea Trust Fund in care of the Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
