Obituary for Clarence J. Cushman

CLARENCE J. CUSHMAN, 96, of 18 Whitman Street, Pittsfield, died Thursday,
February 17, at Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center in Lenox.
Born in Pittsfield on December 21, 1914, the son of George J. and Rachel Allen
Cushman, he was educated in Pittsfield schools and was a 1932 graduate of St. Joseph
Central High School.
A World War II veteran, Mr. Cushman was inducted into the United States Army
on June 27, 1942. He was a radio repairman with the 3114th Signal Service Battalion and served overseas from February 1943 to October 1945. He was honorably discharged
with the rank of Tec 4 on November 7, 1945.
Mr. Cushman was employed by General Electric where he was a machinist in the
Regulator Department for thirty seven years retiring on January 1, 1979.
He was a communicant of St. Joseph Church.
He was a member of the Pittsfield Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 448.
Mr. Cushman was an accomplished pianist and a lifetime member of the greater Springfield and Berkshire County Musician's Association Local 171, AFM. He was an avid and lifelong New York Yankees fan and enjoyed bowling.
He also enjoyed going to York Beach, Maine.
Mr. Cushman's wife, the former Ruth Lifvergren, whom he married October 14,
1950, in St. Joseph's Church, died May 5, 1998.
Mr. Cushman is survived by a daughter, Gail A. Cushman, of Pittsfield, a son, Gary J. Cushman and his wife, Joyce, of Cheshire; and three grandchildren, Kevin P. Cushman of Pittsfield, and Michael G. Cushman and his twin sister, Jana R. Cushman, both of Cheshire.
He was pre-deceased by a sister, Barbara Seckler, last of Pittsfield.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for CLARENCE J. CUSHMAN will be held Monday, February
21, at 8:15 a.m., from DERY FUNERAL HOME with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at
9:00 a.m., at St. Joseph Church celebrated by Rev. Msgr. Michael A. Shershanovich,
Pastor. Burial, with military honors, will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours
will be Sunday, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the Funeral Home. 54 Bradford Street,
Pittsfield.
