Obituary for Clara E. Garvey

Clara E. Garvey, 94, longtime Dalton resident, died Thursday at Craneville Place of Dalton. Born on May 30, 1922 in Stowe, Vermont, she was the daughter of the late Jason and Blanche Bartlett Clapper. She was educated in Windsor and Dalton schools and was a 1941 graduate of the former Dalton High School. She married her husband, the late James H. Garvey on September 3, 1942 in Dalton. He died on November 15, 1993. Mrs. Garvey was employed as a tax clerk in the Tax Collectors Office in Dalton for twenty-five years. She also worked at General Electric during the war. She retired in 1982. She was a communicant of St. Agnes Church and also did volunteer work in Dalton. She enjoyed reading and traveling. She leaves a son; Paul J. Garvey and his wife Jean of Dalton. She also leaves several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her two brothers; Leonard Clapper and Charles Clapper and by her sister; the late Doris Fogarty.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Clara E. Garvey of Dalton who died June 2, 2016 will be held Tuesday at 11:00 AM at the DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME in Dalton. Burial will follow in Ashuelot Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial donations in memory of Clara may be made to the Dalton Ambulance Fund or to the Dalton Volunteer Fire Department both in care of the funeral home, 890 Main Street, Dalton, MA 01226.
