Obituary for Christine Stafford

Christine Ann Stafford, age 105, of BerkshireTown, formerly of Stoddard Avenue, Pittsfield, died Tuesday March 22, 2022, at Mt. Greylock Extended Care, surrounded by her loving family, where she was admitted on March 9. Born in Pittsfield on June 10, 1916, the daughter of Polish immigrants Hipolit and Helen Zalenski Malkowski, she was educated in Pittsfield schools.

She was a seamstress employed by the former St. Luke’s Hospital and its successor Berkshire Medical Center for 28 years, retiring in 1979.

Mrs. Stafford was a communicant of St. Joseph Church and had been a communicant of the former St. Mary the Morningstar Church.

She enjoyed bowling, bingo and playing cards, and wie games. She cherished time with her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.

Her husband, Robert Graham Stafford, whom she married June 1, 1936, died December 22, 2008.

Mrs. Stafford is survived by her daughter, Beverly C. (husband Wesley) Sagendorph of Pittsfield; Five grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren; and fourteen great great grandchildren.

She was pre-deceased by her daughter, Christine A. Shaw; her son, Edwin J. Stafford, and her twelve brothers and sisters.

A special thanks to Mt. Greylock Extended Care for the wonderful care they gave to her throughout her time there.

Mom was very special person to many. She will live in our hearts forever.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Christine Ann Stafford will be held Monday, March 28, at 8:15 a.m. from DERY FUNERAL HOME with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Church celebrated by Rev. Msgr. Michael A. Shershanovich, Pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Children’s Hospital in care of the Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
