Obituary for Charles D. Wendell

CHARLES DENNIS WENDELL, 63, of 1053 South Street, Dalton, died Thursday evening at his home of lung cancer. Born in Pittsfield, October 14, 1943, son of Charles H. and Doris M. Volin
Wendell, he was a 1962 graduate of Pittsfield High School. An auto body technician by trade, Mr. Wendell had been employed by Rufo Auto
Body for 15 years and by Reed Street Auto Body. He had also worked for General
Electric Company as a foreman in the Power Transformer Department, and had at one
time owned and operated Greenridge Variety in Dalton for eight years. He enjoyed hunting, especially big game hunting in various areas with his sons and grandsons, fishing, deep sea fishing, archery and was a member of the Central Berkshire Bowmen. He was a Boston Red Sox fan and enjoyed gardening, and spending
time with his family at his son's lake house.
Mr. Wendell leaves his wife, the former Beatrice Barnes, whom he married March 12, 1963.
Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Charles D. Wendell, Jr., of Pittsfield, and
Steven "Turk" Wendell of Castle Rock, Colorado; four daughters, Audrey Wendell of
Dalton, Tricia Furlong of Pittsfield, Terri Wendell Reardon of Dalton, and Debra Maces
of Becket; and nine grandchildren with another expected.


FUNERAL NOTICE: Calling hours for CHARLES D. WENDELL, who died Thursday, November 2,
will be Sunday, November 5, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m., at DERY FUNERAL HOME in
Pittsfield. Funeral services will be private. The omission of flowers is requested. Contributions in memory of Mr. Wendell may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Lee Regional Visiting Nurse Association in care of the Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
Mr. Wendell is also survived by his sons-in-law, Charles Maces, Keith Reardon,
and David Furlong, Jr., his daughters-in-law, Jane Wendell and Barbara Wendell, and
was beloved "Poppi" to his nine grandchildren, Nicholas, Charles, III., Matthew,
Jenna, Dakota, Wyatt, Dorianna, Analise, Adelyn, and Baby Reardon.
