Obituary for Charles H. Slater

Mr. Charles Henry Slater, 92, of 60 Herie Avenue, Lakewood section of Pittsfield, Ma. died Sunday at Side By Side on Onota Street in Pittsfield where he has resided since January of this year. Born in Pittsfield on September 5, 1914 a son of the late Henry E. and Florence M. Gildrie Slater. He attended schools in Pittsfield. Mr. Slater was employed by the General Electric Company for 44 years retiring in 1973 as a tool and die maker. He was a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners Clubs and the GE Trailer Club. He enjoyed mechanics and yard work. His wife the former Ida B. Garrett whom he married on Sept. 10, 1935 died January 4, 1997. He is survived by a daughter, Arlene M. Gibney of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. A Brother, Carl E. Slater of Pittsfield, Ma. Two Grandchildren and 4 Great Grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Charles H. Slater who died April 22, 2007 will be held Wednesday at 1:00 P.M. at the DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St. Pittsfield, Ma. with the Rev. Dr. Robert M. Rennie, pastor of First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 12 Noon until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials in his memory be made to First Baptist Church or to Hospice Care of the Berkshires both in care of the funeral home. Mr. Slater is lovingly survived by his two grandchildren, Charles W. Gibney of Rock Hill, SC and Eileen K. Wales of Pittsfield and by his four great grandchildren, Paul W. Wales, Abbagale A., Maggie R. and Charles J. Gibney. Also survived by son in law, William A. Gibney and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Slater was predeceased by five sisters, Marie Slater, Rose Poulton, Beatrice Driscoll, Anna Phillips and Beaulah Lawrence.
