Obituary for Charles L. Potter

Charles L. Potter, 86, of Pittsfield, died Monday, March 25, 2013, at Berkshire
Medical Center.
Born in Dalton on July 20, 1926, a son of Lewis G. and Mildred Hunt Potter, he
was educated in Pittsfield schools and was a 1946 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
A World War II veteran, Mr. Potter enlisted with the United States Army on
November 3, 1944. He served with Battery "B" 97th Field Artillery Battalion, with the
Third Armor Calvary and was a Gunner on Sherman tanks. He was awarded the Army of
Occupation Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, and World War II Victory Medal.
He was honorably discharged with the rank of Technician Fifth Grade on October 30,
1946.
Mr. Potter was employed by General Electric Company as an Electrical
Technician. He retired in 1986 with 40 years service.
He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church.
Mr. Potter enjoyed skiing, skiing until he was 84, and was a member of the Jiminy
Peak Ski Club. He enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Skyline Country Club.
He was also a member of the Anthony DeAngelus Post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars
in Dalton and a member of the National Rifle Association.
He had a green thumb and was very meticulous about his lawn and garden. He
also enjoyed his family and their family vacations.
Mr. Potter leaves his wife, the former Marilyn Daly, whom he married July 7,
1951, in St. Mary the Morning Star Church in Pittsfield.
He is also survived by two sons, Philip C. Potter of Bedford, N.H., and
Christopher S. Potter and his wife, Janet, of Fairhaven, Mass.; two daughters, Pamela
Potter-Reger of Rensselaer, N.Y., and Diane P. McCabe and her husband, Neal, of East
Freetown, Mass; two sisters, Barbara Sniezek of Dalton, and Charlotte Shea of Trumbull,
Conn., as well as ten grandchildren, Amy Reger, Michelle Hubert, Carlie Albert,
Matthew Potter, Katie Rausch, Cody Potter, Kelsey Potter, Zachary McCabe, Daly
McCabe, and Jacob McCabe; and three great grandchildren, Makenzie Albert and
twins, Brennan Rausch and Rylan Rausch.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was pre-deceased by two brothers, Harvey G. Potter and David Potter.


FUNERAL NOTICE:
Funeral services for Charles L. Potter will be held Tuesday, April 2, at 10:15 a.m.
from DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00
a.m., at Sacred Heart Church celebrated by Rev. James K. Joyce, Pastor. Burial will
follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m,
at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the
