Obituary for Charles R. Bordeau

Charles Rene Bordeau, 93 years old, formerly of Dodge Ave in Pittsfield, died peacefully on January 2, 2023 at Berkshire Medical Center.

He was born in Pittsfield on June 1, 1929 to Charles M. and Leah Pellerin Bordeau.

Mr. Bordeau was a 1947 graduate of Pittsfield High School. He also attended Northeastern University, Boston College Law School and the University of Alabama where he was on the Debate team. Charles was a graduate of North Adams State Teachers College, where he received his Bachelor’s degree in 1956 and later earned his Master’s degree.

Chuck was a United States Army Veteran, having served as a Private with the 24th Signal Corps Division in the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. He was stationed in Inchon, South Korea and Tokyo, Japan.
Mr. Bordeau married Mary Theresa Monti on April 11, 1953. She predeceased him on May 23, 2021.

He worked at General Electric in 1947, testing transformers where he met his wife Mary, before attending college.

His love for teaching started at Egremont Elementary and was a 6th grade teacher from 1957-1966. He also served as the chief negotiator for the teacher’s union. Mr. Bordeau was the principal of Williams Elementary School from 1966-1974. Like most educators during this era, He held several jobs other than teaching and worked most evenings while raising his five children. Chuck was the Assistant Superintendent for the Pittsfield Public Schools from 1974 until his retirement in 1987, where he also served as their chief negotiator.

He was a Silver Life Master Bridge player and had the same bridge partner for 63 years, his best friend Tom Farley.

He was also an avid fan of the Red Sox, Patriots, and Celtics and loved going golfing with family and friends at Bas Ridge Golf Course.

Chuck lived a beautiful long life, with a loving wife and family. His legacy will live on in all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his son Charles E. Bordeau and wife Chara of Springfield, IL, daughter Charlene M. Moore of Sarasota, FL, son Peter F. Bordeau of Orlando, FL, son David R. Bordeau and wife Jeanne of Austin, TX, and daughter Michelle B. Teichert and husband Dennis of Pittsfield, MA. His grandchildren, David Moore and wife Katie, Max Teichert and wife Kara, Alex Teichert, Melissa Mark and husband Skye, Amy Asay and husband Evan. His great-grandchildren, Sophie and Molly Moore and Eamon and Howard David Asay. He also leaves his brother, Edward Bordeau of Hampton, NH and sister-in-law, Patricia Monti of Pittsfield.

Funeral services and Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Charles R. Bordeau Memorial Scholarship in care of Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford St, Pittsfield, MA 01201.
