Obituary for Charles J. "Sarge" Anderson

Charles “Sarge” John Anderson, 80, of Pittsfield passed away on November 17, 2022.

Born in Pittsfield on September 13, 1942, the son of John C. and Gertrude Karpowitz Anderson. He was a graduate of Pittsfield High School and Westfield State College. He served for the Army Reserves for 2 years, 6 months of that being active duty. Mr. Anderson married Shirley A. Bond on September 5, 1964. She predeceased him on October 3, 2008.

He was a vocational teacher for over 30 years at Taconic High School, he retired in 2004. Prior to teaching, he was a draftsman for E.D. Jones Corp. in Dalton, MA. Mr. Anderson owned and operated CJ Marine, where he sold and serviced tractors and boats.

Charles loved boating on local lakes and the Hudson River and was a member of the Ravena-Coeymans Yacht Club for many years. He enjoyed many sports and was a devoted fan of NASCAR, the New England Patriots, and the Boston Red Sox.

He is survived by his daughter Teresa Latura and her husband Richard of Pittsfield; three granddaughters, Casondra Latura (John Nason) of Quincy, MA, Sidni and Emelia Anderson of Pittsfield; sister Carole Vincent of Pittsfield; and brother Alan Anderson of Dalton. He also leaves behind his brother in-law Robert Bond of Hinsdale and many nephews and a niece.

Besides his wife, he was predeceased by his son Michael J. Anderson in 2021.

FUNERAL HOURS: Calling hours will be held Saturday December 3, 2022 from 11 to 1pm a Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford St. in Pittsfield. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Eleanor Sonsini Animal Shelter in care of the funeral home.

A Celebration of Life will take place at the Tavern at the A, 303 Crane Ave, Pittsfield, following the calling hours.
