Obituary for Cecelia Brennan McCarthy

Cecelia Irene Brennan McCarthy, 91, of 255 Lebanon Avenue, Springside Rehabilitation and Skilled Care Facility, and formerly of Dutchess Avenue, passed away Wednesday October 23, 2013 surrounded by her loving family.
Cel was born on June 28, 1922 in Holyoke, MA to the late Patrick and Cecelia Mackley Brennan. She graduated from Holyoke High School in 1940 and Providence Hospital School of Nursing in 1943. She served in World War II as an Army Nurse. In 1949 she married the late Francis F. McCarthy Sr. She was an IV therapist and registered nurse for many years at Providence Hospital, St. Luke's Hospital, and Berkshire Medical Center.
She loved volunteering at her children's schools and with the Boy Scouts and Campfire Girls, even though it meant she had to wear pants and go camping. She loved crocheting, reading, crossword puzzles, sewing, and most of all: spoiling her seven grandchildren. She was also a communicant of the former St. Francis Church.
Cel leaves her son Dr. Francis F. McCarthy, Jr. and his wife Ann of Lanesboro and their sons: Devon and Colin; son Patrick McCarthy of Ludlow; son Michael McCarthy and his wife Susan of Falls Church, Virginia and their sons: Daniel and Stephen; a daughter Cecelia Schnopp and her husband Mark of Pittsfield and their children: Julia, Adam and Rebecca. She is also survived by brothers-in-law: Albert McCarthy and James Mooney, Sr., a sister-in-law: Agnes McCarthy; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is pre-deceased by her husband of 62 years Francis F. McCarthy Sr., her sister Mary Patricia Ford, her sisters-in-law Eleanor McCarthy and Mary Louise Mooney and her brother-in-law Edward McCarthy.

FUNERAL NOTICE
Funeral services for Cecelia Irene Brennan McCarthy will be SATURDAY, NOVEMBER2, 2013 at 10:00 AM at the DERY FUNERAL HOME. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. A calling hour will preceed the funeral from 9:00 until 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield.
