Obituary for Catherine B. Sedgwick

CATHERINE B. SEDGWICK, 73, of 26 View Street, Dalton, a lifelong resident of Dalton, died Monday, March 28, at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Pittsfield on March 28, 1938, the daughter of Henry R. and Ethel Williams Biegel, she was educated in Dalton schools and was a 1956 graduate of the former Dalton High School.
Mrs. Sedgwick had been employed by General Electric Company where she was
a programmer for eight years.
She had also worked at the Dalton Free Public Library, was a special needs
teacher at Nessacus Middle School, and had been a library aide at Craneville School.
She had enjoyed being an Avon representative for thirty years.
She retired from the workforce in 1983.
Mrs. Sedgwick was an active member of Grace Episcopal Church where she had
been a Sunday School teacher, a youth group leader, and a member of the Altar Guild.
She had been a Camp Fire Girls group leader, as well. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, and craft making, and canning fruits and
vegetables. She leaves her husband, Robert J. Sedgwick, whom she married June 29, 1957
in Grace Episcopal Church.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Sedgwick is survived by two daughters, Deborah Jean
Baker of North Adams, and Brenda Lee Darby and her husband, Darryl, of Peru; a brother, Henry R. Biegel and his wife, Connie, of Lanesborough; a grandson, Charles
Robert Baker of Pittsfield; two nephews, Charles Biegel and Jeffrey Biegel, and a niece,
Pamela Monterosso, and their families.
Catherine leaves many friends whom she cherished spending time with and who were always just stopping by to visit. She considered everyone her family, and she considered Chris Peck-Cooney and Kim Briggs her daughters, as well. She also leaves a godson, Brian Rosenhein and his wife whom she loved to visit with when able and to see
his children grow.
Catherine also leaves many grand puppies and animals of her daughter, Brenda, which she enjoyed spending time with and helping to care for when she was able.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A service of Christian Burial will be held Friday, April 1, at 10:00 a.m., at
Grace Episcopal Church, with Rev. Daina Salnitis, Rector, as Celebrant. Burial will
follow in Ashuelot Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.,
at the DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory
of Mrs. Sedgwick may be made to Grace Episcopal Church or to Dalton Ambulance and Rescue, both in care of the Funeral Home, 890 East Main Street, Dalton. Mrs. Sedgwick's family would like to thank all the staff of Berkshire Medical
Center who cared for Catherine in her final days for their excellent care and compassion,
especially the staff of the Critical Care Unit and Doctors: Georgianne Valli-Harwood,
Stephen Nelson, Hani Erian, Julie Floyd, and Behzad Parhizgar
