Obituary for Catherine Joan Eddy

Catherine Joan Eddy, 65, of Pittsfield, died of cancer on Sunday, May
28, 2017, at home surrounded by her family.
Born in Pittsfield on October 2, 1951, the daughter of the late Winthrop N. and Mary Mullens
Gutmann, she was a 1969 graduate of St. Joseph Central High School. She also graduated
from the Pittsfield Community Music School.
At the time of her death, Mrs. Eddy was employed by the Pittsfield Public Schools, where
for the last 25 years, she had been a cafeteria worker at Taconic High School. Prior to that she was
a stay-at-home mother.
Mrs. Eddy was a communicant of St. Charles Church.
She enjoyed watching sports, especially the New York Yankees and Giants. Her hobbies
included keeping track of the weather and gardening.
She leaves her husband, Neil Eddy, whom she married September 27, 1975.
Mrs. Eddy is also survived by three daughters, Marianna Eddy and her husband, Gerard
Gleeson, of Melrose, MA, Sarah Eddy and her husband, Jaime Viteri of Pittsfield, and Meghan
Eddy of East Thetford, VT; a son, Timothy Eddy of Beirut, Lebanon; five brothers, Peter
Gutmann and his wife, Anita, of Adams, Robert Gutmann of Lenox Dale, Charles Gutmann and
his wife, Irene, of Suffern, NY, James Gutmann of Eastchester, NY, and Mark Gutmann and
his wife Jamie, of Morgantown, WV; a grandson, Joseph Viteri; as well as her sister-in-
law, Janet Eddy of Pittsfield; brother-in-law, Lynn Eddy and his wife, Patricia, of Pittsfield. She
is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was pre-deceased by her sister, Winifred Morenz and her sister-in-law, Joanne
Gutmann.


FUNERAL NOTICE:
Funeral services for Catherine Joan Eddy will be held Saturday, June 3, with a Liturgy of
Christian Burial at 9:00 a.m., at St. Charles Church celebrated by Rev. Michael J. Wood,
Administrator. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Friday, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the DERY FUNERAL HOME.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the Eleanor Sonsini Animal Shelter or Hospice Services of Western Mass. in care of the Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
