Obituary for Catherine R. Dowdell
CATHERINE ROBERTA (HUNT) DOWDELL, 73, of 65 Columbus Avenue,died Thursday, October 16, at her home. Born in Pittsfield, November 21, 1934, the daughter of James H. and Ruth Van
Buren Hunt, she was educated in Pittsfield schools. Mrs. Dowdell was employed by the former St. Luke's Hospital and Pittsfield
General Hospital, now Berkshire Medical Center, as a Nurse's Aide in the Labor and
Delivery Room.
She was a member of Second Congregational Church.
She enjoyed playing bingo and cards.
Mrs. Hunt is survived by her husband, Thomas R. Dowdell, whom she married
June 9, 1956. Besides her husband of Chicago, she leaves three sons, Thomas R. Dowdell, Jr.,
and his wife, Susan, of Adams, Jeffrey L. Dowdell of Pittsfield; Tyrone S. Dowdell and his wife, Jacqueline, of North Adams, two daughters, Kweli Ya-Saleem of Menands, New York, and Deborah A. Dowdell of Greenville, South Carolina; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and her sister-in-law, Mae Hunt of Pittsfield.
Mrs. Hunt was pre-deceased by a son, Keith H. Dowdell, who died March 14,
1980, and two brothers, James F. Hunt and Robert M. Hunt.
FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for CATHERINE ROBERTA (HUNT) DOWDELL, who died
Thursday, October 16, will be Thursday, October 23, at 1:00 p.m., at Second
Congregational Church, with Rev. Willard H. Durant, officiating.There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Dowdell may be made to American Diabetes Association in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
