CAROL ELLEN GOKEY TURNER, 63, of 33 Worthen Street, Pittsfield, died Tuesday afternoon at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Pittsfield, August 31, 1943, a daughter of Stephen J. and Edith L. Payson
Gokey, she was a 1961 graduate of Pittsfield High School.Mrs. Turner was employed by General Electric Company Ordnance Systems
Division and later by General Dynamics as a wiring and harness inspector. She worked
there from 1966 until her retirement in 1998. She was a member of the General Electric
Company Quarter Century and Pensioners Clubs.
Mrs. Turner loved being a homemaker and hostessing parties especially at the
holidays. She was an excellent cook who embraced new cooking ideas while continuing
her traditional methods of cooking. She enjoyed traveling to exotic places and took
several cruises, as well as shopping and trips to nearby casinos. She was also a lover of
animals and wildlife, enjoyed gardening, and pursuing her many interests on the internet.
She always made her opinions known and was an excellent conversationalist.
She leaves her husband, Richard C. Turner, whom she married March 20, 198l. Besides her husband, Mrs. Turner is survived by a son, Stephen J. Leab of Clifton Park, New York; three daughters, Lisa Leab Andrews of Pittsfield; Jody Turner of
Alabama, and Kelly Turner of Pittsfield; two sisters, Joan Witek of North Adams and
Sally Gokey of Pittsfield; and two grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by an infant
daughter, Suzanne Leab who died in 1964.


FUNERAL NOTICE: CAROL ELLEN TURNER, loved and cherished by all who knew her and
remembered as a giver and excellent listener, lost her battle with emphysema after
surviving cancer in 1998. Funeral services will be Saturday, February 17, at 11:00 a.m.,
at DERY FUNERAL HOME, with Rev. Robert Kyte, Pastor of First Congregational
Church of Dalton, officiating. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours
will precede the service from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions her
memory may be made to the American Lung Association or to the Berkshire Humane
Society in care of the Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
Mrs. Turner also leaves her grandson, Nathan Andrews and her granddaughter,
Hannah Turner, several nieces and nephews, and her dear pet Choloe. She was predeceased by a sister, Rose Shurkus.
