Obituary for Carmina M. DelSignore

Carmina M. DelSignore, 91, formerly of Pittsfield, died on July 27, 2014 at The Stone Institute Nursing Center in Newton, MA.
The daughter of Lucian DelSignore,Sr. and Luisa Liaci Carnevale DelSignore, Carmina was
born in Pittsfield on March 21, 1923 and lived there until 2011 when she moved to Cambridge,
MA to live with her niece, Mary Louise Ferraro.
Carmina, known to her family as "Carmie" and friends as "Carm," attended Pittsfield Public
Schools and was employed by the former Elmvale Worsted Company and the A. H. Rice Company. In 1983, she retired from the former Sheaffer Eaton Company where she worked for
many years as an assembler.
A kind, generous, strong-willed, and spirited woman throughout her life, Carmina was the rock
of her large family. She was always available to offer her help and support; advice, if needed;
and, until her final years, a comforting bowl of chicken soup or pasta fazool; or, if you were really
lucky, a couple of meatballs scooped from a big pot of simmering tomato sauce. In addition to delighting her family and friends with delicious homemade Italian food and cookies, Carmina loved to read, try new restaurants, crochet, travel in the U.S.A, and Canada, play cards, and make occasional trips to Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods. She was proud of being a life-long member of the Democratic Party and a staunch supporter of organized labor.
A devout Catholic, she was a communicant of the former Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church and
St. Mark Church while living in Pittsfield. After moving to the Boston area, Carmina received Holy Communion from St. John the Evangelist Church and St. Peter Parish in Cambridge, MA;
and, Mary Immaculate of Lourdes Parish in Newton, MA.
Carmina is survived by one sister, Jennie Jansen and her husband, William, Sr. and two brothers, Dominic and Lucian DelSignore, Jr. and his wife Florence. She is also survived by
many beloved nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and great-grandnieces
and great-grandnephews; as well as her cat, Gino
In addition to her parents, Carmina was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Ferraro, and Angelina Sokolowski; and by three brothers, Vincent "Jimmy," Anthony, and Joseph DelSignore.
Carmina's family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful staff at The GoodShepherd Community Hospice for their kindness and support during her last days. The family
would also like to express their deep thanks to the staff at The Stone Institute Nursing Center for
taking such good care of their dear sister and aunt for the last nine months.
