Obituary for Carl Mazza

Carl R. Mazza passed away Tuesday 8/23/22 at Berkshire Medical Center after a brief illness.

Carl was born in Tewksbury, MA and was raised in Pittsfield. He was one of eight children born to Dominick & Edith Mazza.

Carl’s strong work ethic started as a young boy delivering ice all over the county. He worked at the GE for many, many years in the Maintenance Department. He also held the position of Chief Shop Steward, of which he took very seriously! His work carried on outside of GE as he was always happily painting for family & friends through the years. He simultaneously held numerous part-time jobs working for his Father-in-Laws rug cleaning business(Canavan’s Rug Cleaning), was grilling steaks & pouring drinks at the old Lantern for as long as everyone can remember! When he retired from GE in 1991, he worked alongside his wife Jane in their cleaning business ( C&J Cleaners) working right up until his recent stay in the hospital.

Carl loved walking; he was an avid walker right up until he passed. He loved little children and lit up when they were around, he was always there for anyone in need, He simply had a heart of GOLD!!!

Carl was also an avid Boston Celtics, Baltimore Orioles & Notre Dame Fanatic!!!! Another one of his favorite pastimes was eating dinner at Mazzeo’s, sitting in his favorite booth and schmoozing with the staff (who he loved).

Carl leaves behind his daughter Carla Prendergast (Steve), Stepdaughter Shirley Barscz (Mike), Stepsons Joseph Haskell (Cindy) & Jack Haskell, Grandsons Trevor Chretien (Terry), Stephen Prendergast II & Joseph Haskell Jr, Great Grandsons Camin Ketchum, Avry Haskell Ellerbee , & Granddaughter Ashlie Haskell, Sisters Anne Pannesco (Jim), Beverly Pizzuto (Tom) as well as many numerous nieces & nephews who were all “Very Special” to him!!
