Obituary for Brenda L. Kmon

Brenda Louise Kmon, 80, of Dalton, passed away February 3, 2021 at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Ware, MA on July 22, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Harold “George” and Ruth Eldridge Piper. Brenda attended Ware schools and attended Northampton Business College.

She married Stanley John Kmon on August 19, 1961. They wintered in Bradenton, Florida for 20 years.

Brenda was a member of the Dalton American Legion Post 155 Auxiliary. In 1990, she was named Massachusetts state "Woman of the Year" for her outstanding contributions to the auxiliary programs. She served as unit historian and chairman of both the Americanism and children and youth committees. She also co-chaired auxiliary sponsored blood banks and craft fairs. Brenda initiated the "Koins for Kids" project in 1987 that places canisters in local stores with proceeds donated to child abuse charities. You can still find these canisters in local businesses today.

Before starting her family, she worked at GE Ordnance Systems. After raising her children, she worked for O’Laughlin’s Pharmacy in Dalton and ended her career working as the office manager of the GEAA. She also did work at the Dalton Methodist Church, where she was a communicant.

She was an avid golfer and in 1986 won the Berkshire County Women’s Allied Golf Tournament.

Brenda loved playing cards and dominoes with her family and friends. Most of all she loved spending time with her family and her daughters three dogs.

She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Stan Kmon of Dalton; daughter, Michelle R. Beaudoin and husband Peter of Lanesborough; son, Daniel P. Kmon of Dalton; four grandchildren, Jacob Beaudoin, Justin Beaudoin and fiancé Briana Parshall, Nicholas Kmon and Katelyn Kmon; and a great-grandson, Bentley Beaudoin.
