Obituary for Bradford Swanson

Bradford Swanson, 91, Lenox, MA formerly from Pittsfield. Born in 1929 in New Bedford, Massachusetts, Bradford spent his early years in Santa Barbara, CA and in Brooklyn, New York.

He attended Erasmus high school in Brooklyn and enlisted in the Navy submarine service as a teenager in 1946.

He used his Navy education from Diesel school to launch a career in mechanical manufacturing and quality control engineering. He was a long time General Electric employee starting out in Long Island NY, moving to Burlington Vt. and eventually Pittsfield MA.

After retiring from GE in 1990, he enjoyed being a member of the Berkshire Camera Club and working as an usher at Tanglewood.

Bradford is pre-deceased by his wife of over 60 years, Elizabeth Swanson. Bradford and Elizabeth were longtime members of St. Stephen's Parish in Pittsfield. A devoted husband and father, he is survived by 3 sons: William Swanson of Adams MA, Robert Swanson of Dalton MA, and Bruce Swanson of Groton MA, 5 grandchildren: Brianne Swanson of North Adams MA, Aubrey Swanson of Pittsfield MA, Skylar Swanson of Pittsfield MA, Benjamin Swanson of Malden MA, and Anna Swanson of Westborough MA, and 2 Great Grandchildren: Lily and Cora.

A small private graveside service is planned for April 24, 2021 which marks Bradford and Elizabeth's anniversary. The family would like to thank the staff at Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center for providing excellent care and companionship especially given the long period of limited family access.
