Obituary for Beverly Armstrong

Beverly Armstrong, 72, formerly of Kellie Drive in Pittsfield and Dublin Road in Richmond passed away peacefully April 1, 2016 after a lengthy illness at Berkshire Place, where she has resided since March 2015, Bev was born in Pittsfield, MA on February 15, 1944, daughter of the late Wilfred Dupuis and Nicolina (Sciola) Dupuis. She was raised in Pittsfield and educated in Pittsfield schools. She graduated in 1961 from Pittsfield High School and again in 1975 from the Post Graduate Cosmetology Program. She is predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend Thomas who died in 2005. They were married at St. Charles Church in Pittsfield on August 3, 1963. As newlyweds, Bev and Tom lived in Lanesborough, then moved to Pittsfield and ultimately settled in Richmond to raise their young family. They remained there for nearly 30 years before moving back to Pittsfield following Tom's retirement from G.E.
Beverly will be remembered as a loving devoted wife, dedicated mother and loyal, thoughtful friend. She was a loving and caring, compassionate, dignified, modest, private and respectful lady who will be greatly missed by many. Prior to marriage, Beverly was employed by Kaufman Brothers and Schaeffer Eaton Paper. After marriage, she enjoyed her life as a wife, homemaker and stay at home mom. When her children were young she enjoyed participating in all of their sports, school and social activities. Her focus and priority was always her family. When her children were older Bev went back to school for Cosmetology but soon found it didn't suit her so she returned to the workforce. She was employed as a key punch operator at The First Agricultural Bank and then held many secretarial positions within General Electric and Ordnance Divisions. After retiring in 1996 as one of the Main Receptionist and Customer Service Center positions at GE Plastics Headquarters, she was able to devote her abounding energy to her family once again. She enjoyed vacationing and exploring life with Tom, socializing with their close-knit group of friends and relatives, home decorating, baking, shopping, mentoring children in the Adopt-a-Senior Program at Richmond School and exercising in the senior "Silver Sneakers" strength building class at the YMCA. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and enjoying her three granddaughters. Bev was devoted to her Faith and was a communicant of St. Charles Church for many years. Beverly is survived by her loving and devoted daughter Lynda Armstrong-Race and her husband Gregory Race, a son Timothy and his wife Patricia, granddaughters Sarah, Amanda, and Ashley Armstrong. She also leaves two sisters; her twin, Barbara DuCharme and younger sister, Linda Ochs, two brothers-in-law; Peter Ochs of Pittsfield and Richard Armstrong of Johnsburg, N.Y, several aunts & uncles, many cousins, nieces, nephews, treasured friends, new friends and her very dear life-long friend Janet Dube of Bellows Falls, VT. Beverly's family wishes to acknowledge and express their deep gratitude and special thanks to the wonderful administration and staff at Berkshire Place, Springside Rehab & Skilled Care Center, EPOCH at Melbourne Assisted Living and HospiceCare in The Berkshires for all of their kindness, love, dignified care and compassion shown to Beverly and her family throughout her illness.
