Obituary for Beryl M. Belair

BERYL MAY ANNETTS BELAIR of 27 Patricia Avenue, died peacefully in her
sleep at home on the 24th of April.
Beryl was born in England, the daughter of Daisy Annetts Hawkins and the late
Arthur "Jim" Hawkins. She met her husband of 53 years, Richard Belair, while he was
stationed in England in the U.S. Air Force. Upon his discharge, they settled first in
Dalton and then at their current address for the past forty seven years.
First of all, and most importantly, Beryl was a homemaker, wife, and mother. As
the children grew, she worked for the Pittsfield School Department as a cafeteria helper
and eventually manager of the Allendale School cafeteria. After leaving the School
Department., she worked for England Brothers in the Allendale Shopping Center and
subsequently managed Allendale Gifts.
With her husband's retirement, Beryl also retired and they spent the next 17
years traveling around the country and back to England to visit with her family. In
addition, she now had grandchildren to enjoy and spoil, and three years ago, her first
great grandchild.
True to her English background, Beryl was an excellent knitter. For variety, she
took up ceramics and attended macram classes at the Senior Center. Beryl was also
active in Cub Scout Pack 20 as a den leader and instructor for new den leaders.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her mother, Daisy, her brothers,
James and his wife, Phyllis, Peter and his wife, Stella, and Kenneth, all in England, and
her sister, Carol, and her husband, Bernard in Dalton; her sons, Douglas and his wife,
Susan, in Ijamsville ["Ij" is correct spelling], Maryland, Michael and his wife, Jeanne,
in Pittsfield, and Richard in Adams, and her daughter, Suzette O'Brien, and her husband,
Thomas, in Pittsfield; her grandchildren are Jeffrey Belair and his wife, Diana, Matthew,
Heather, Megan, Nicholas, Michael, Christopher, and Richard Belair, and Thomas
O'Brien and great grandson, Chase Henault. She was pre-deceased by a great grandson,
Andrew Henault, who died at birth.
