Obituary for Bertha Mary Ostaski

Bertha Mary Ostaski, 86, of 605 West Street, died Wednesday, December 18, 2013, at
Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Pittsfield on September 10, 1927, she was a daughter of John and Antonina Rozburska
Wrona, was educated in Pittsfield schools, and was a 1946 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
Mrs. Ostaski and her late husband owned and operated the Checker and Yellow taxicab companies for thirty seven years. Following his death, she continued as President until retiring from the business in 1984.
Mrs. Ostaski was a communicant of St. Mark Church and had been a communicant of Holy
Family Church.
She was a member of the International Taxi Association.
She enjoyed country music, particularly performances from the Grand Ole Oprey, especially, country singer, Stew Phillips. She also enjoyed reading and traveling.
Her husband, Edward H. Ostaski, whom she married March 29, 1948, in Holy Family Church,
died June 30, 1975.
Mrs. Ostaski is survived by two sons, James M. Ostaski of Pittsfield and Lynn E. Ostaski and
his wife, Linda, of Milford, Mass.; and two grandchildren, Michael T. Ostaski and Valerie M. Ball
and her husband, Christopher.
She was pre-deceased by four brothers, John Wrona, Jr., Carl Wrona, Theodore Wrona,
and Isadore Wrona, and four sisters, Sophie Wrona, Matilda Ostaski, Blanche Kules, and Emily
Szancilo.

FUNERAL NOTICE:
Funeral services for Bertha Mary Ostaski will be held Monday, December 23, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m., at St. Mark Church celebrated by Rev. John C. Salatino, Pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m, at the DERY
FUNERAL HOME. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The American Diabetes Association in care of the Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
