Obituary for Bernice Bridges Williams

Bernice Bridges Williams, 91, of Melbourne Place, Pittsfield, died Monday, November 11, 2013, at Springside of Pittsfield.
Born in Hartford, Connecticut, on September 6, 1922, the only child of Reinford and Agnes Goodskey Bridges, she was educated in the Pittsfield school system, and was a 1940 graduate of Pittsfield High School. She attended nursing school but realized nursing was not her particular calling.
Mrs. Williams went to work in the Payroll Department at General Electric Company where she met the man who would become her husband. She worked at G.E. until the birth of their first child in 1961. She later worked at England Brothers on North Street during the 1970s and '80s.
She was a member of Zion's Evangelical Lutheran Church where she was a longtime
member of the Altar Guild.
Mrs. Williams was a devoted wife and a doting mother. She enjoyed gardening, cats, and
Visiting Cape Cod.
Her husband of 65 years, Gilbert L. Williams, whom she married August 25, 1945, died
February 22, 2011.
Mrs. Williams is survived by her son Brent A. Williams and his wife, Amy, of Penfield, New York;
her daughter, Anne E. Williams Sutherland of Pittsfield; three grandsons, Alexander Sutherland, Christian Sutherland, and Jonathan Sutherland; as well as her former son-in-law, David C. Sutherland,
of Pittsfield.

FUNERAL NOTICE:
Funeral services for Bernice Bridges Williams will be held Monday, November 18, at 11:00 a.m,
at Zion's Evangelical Lutheran Church with Rev. Timothy Weisman, Pastor, officiating. A private burial service will be held at a later date. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Zion's Evangelical Lutheran Church in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
