Obituary for Benjamin G. Robinson

Benjamin G. Robinson, 95, of 38 Grace Terrace in Pittsfield died Saturday at home. Born on May 11, 1914 in Newburyport, MA he was the son of the late Samuel and Bessie Davis Robinson. He was a 1932 graduate of Central High School in Springfield, MA. He was also a member of the Class of 1937 at the University of Maine and also graduated from Northeastern University in Boston in 1938. Mr. Robinson was a registered professional mechanical engineer, a licensed 2nd class fireman, a licensed master pipe fitter and licensed refrigeration technician. He came to General Electric in 1941 from A.G. Spaulding in Chicopee where he had been assistant to the chief engineer. For many years he was the manager of Plant Engineering and Maintenance at the Ordnance Department at General Electric. He retired from GE Plastics in 1972 with thirty-one years of service. He had also worked at Hill Engineering in Dalton at one time. He attended South Congregational Church. He was an active member of the Masons, having been master of Crescent Lodge A.F.&A.M. , District Deputy Grand Master, and High Priest of Berkshire Chapter R.A.M. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite, a Shriner, and a member of the Red Cross of Constantine and Director of the Grand Lodge of Masons in Boston. He was a very active Rotarian, having served as past president of the Pittsfield Rotary in 1986-1987. He was also a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow. He and his wife, the former Helen Frances Hughes were married for sixty-four years. She died in 2002. He was also predeceased by their daughter, Jean Caroline Robinson Wendling who died on July 4, 1970. He leaves his four grandchildren; Deborah Cerreta and her husband Ralph, Daniel Wendling and his wife Bonnie, Donald Wendling and his wife Barb and Dorothy Henzel. He also leaves his seven great grandchildren; Mark Cerreta, Megan Wendling, Glenna Havens, Jacob and Rebecca Wendling, Rachel Roberts and Makala Henzel as well as his great great granddaughter; Audrey Havens.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A private graveside service for Benjamin G. Robinson, 95, of Pittsfield who died February 13, 2010 will be held at a later date in Oak Hill Cemetery in Newburyport, MA. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations in memory of Mr. Robinson may be made to the Berkshire Humane Society in care of the DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St. Pittsfield, MA 01201 which is in charge of arrangements.
