Obituary for Benedetto J. Sciola

Mr. Benedetto Joseph "Benny" Sciola, 84, of 47 Dickinson Avenue, Pittsfield, Ma. Died Thursday at his home. Born on January 11, 1922 in Pittsfield, Ma. a son of the late James and Isabelle Vallone Sciola. He attended schools in Pittsfield. He was a World War II United States Navy Veteran. Mr. Sciola was employed by the General Electric Company for 42 years retiring from the Ordnance Dept. as a production control supervisor in 1983. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners Club, a member of the Sons of Italy ITAM Lodge #564 of Pittsfield, a member of the GEAA Golf Club, he had served as a shop steward at GE and was a former officer in local 254. In 1979 he had a hole in one at Berkshire Hills Country Club, in his younger years he played softball in the GEAA fast pitch league; he also played in the City League for the former Sookey's Luncheonette. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, golfing and was an enthusiastic Boston Red Sox fan. He enjoyed spending his time with his family and grandchildren. Mr. Sciola leaves his wife the former Jennie R. Conti whom he married January 8, 1945 at Mt. Carmel Church in Pittsfield. Two sons, Benedetto J. Sciola of Hinsdale, Ma. and Michael A. Sciola of Pittsfield, Ma. Two daughters, Marie C. Barzousky and Karen J. Corl both of Pittsfield. Two sisters, Angelina Lausier of Pittsfield and Rose Pellizari of Loveland, Colorado. 14 Grandchildren and 6 Great Grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Benedetto J. "Benny" Sciola who died July 6, 2006 will be held Monday at 9:15 a.m. from the DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St. Pittsfield, Ma. followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, celebrated by the Rev. Geoffrey Deeker, CSS pastor. Burial will follow in Saint Joseph's Cemetery with full military honors. Calling hours at Dery Funeral Home will be Sunday from 4 to 7 P.M. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials in his memory be made to the American Heart Association or to Berkshire Medical Center Renal Dialysis both in care of the funeral home. Mr. Sciola is lovingly survived by his 14 grandchildren, Jessica Craig, Laurie Exeter, Benny, Danny and Nicole Sciola, Sarah Kermensky, Hailey Rinaldi, Steven and Kristine Barzousky, Stefanie, Gina and Vicki Corl and Amanda and Michael Sciola and by his beloved 6 great grandchildren, Maggie and Alex Craig, Sam and Max Exeter, Lily and Gabe Barzousky. Also by devoted sons in law, Benjamin Barzousky and Richard Corl and by daughters in law, Sandy and Donna Sciola. Mr. Sciola was predeceased by four sisters, Nicolina Dupuis, Theresa Bishop, Catherine Bond and Carmella Lussier and by three brothers, Anthony, Michael and James Sciola.
