Obituary for Barbara Jean Stickles Sullivan
Barbara Jean Stickles Sullivan, 83, of 74 Lyman Street in Becket died Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Craneville Place of Dalton of complications from Alzheimer's disease.
Born in Pittsfield on May 29, 1930, the daughter of the late Raymond and Ruby Wiggins Stickles, she was a longtime resident of Becket. A graduate of Pittsfield High School, she received her Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Boston University and her teacher's certificate through the Massachusetts State College System. She was predeceased by Albert William Sullivan of Becket, her husband for forty-six years whom she married on February 19, 1953. Briefly employed by General Electric in Pittsfield as a laboratory specialist, she later taught science and math for many years at various schools in the Central Berkshire Regional School District. Mrs. Sullivan was an avid reader and dog lover. She loved music and to travel, especially cruises. She made several trips to Alaska and enjoyed flight seeing in her son-in-law John's airplane. Mrs. Sullivan leaves three daughters; Brigadier General (retired) Sharon S. Dieffenderfer of Palmer, Alaska, Ms. Jan C. Sullivan of Goshen, Ms. Kathleen A. Sullivan of Becket: a son, Mark A. Sullivan of Holden; a brother, R. Peter Stickles of Huntsville, Alabama; and grandchildren, Courtney and Cameron Sullivan, and Daniel and Sean Dieffenderfer.
FUNERAL NOTICE: A Celebration of Life for Mrs. Barbara J. Sullivan, 83, of Becket who died March 22, 2014 will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Massachusetts Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association may be made to through the DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, 890 Main Street, Dalton, MA 01226 which is handling arrangements.
