Obituary for Anthony J. Ferdyn

ANTHONY JOSEPH FERDYN, 77, of 16 Ridge Avenue, Pittsfield,passed away Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at Berkshire Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Born in Pittsfield, August 27, 1932, a son of Anthony and Mary Rustic Ferdyn, he was a 1950 graduate of Pittsfield High School where he was a 3-Letter Man in baseball,
football, and basketball. He had also belonged to Chicago White Sox Major League Baseball Organization. Upon graduation from high school, he enlisted with the United States Marine Corps
Following military service, Mr. Ferdyn was employed by General Electric
Company where he held several positions including that of Supervisor of Ordnance in Fire Control. He retired in 1987 with 42 years service. He had also worked for Krofta Water Filtration in Lenox and for Berkshire Bank.
Mr. Ferdyn was a communicant of St. Charles Church. He was a member of the General Electric Quarter Century Club and a member
and past president of the Board of Directors of the General Electric Athletic Association.
He was also a member of the Skyline Country Club.Mr. Ferdyn was a member of the Ward 7 Democratic City Committee.
He was elected to the UNICO Baseball and Football Hall of Fame and was the
34th Pick to the All Time Best Athletes of Berkshire County. He also coached Little
League. Mr. Ferdyn leaves his wife, the former Frances M. O'Hearn, whom he married
May 28, 1960 in Sacred Heart Church.
Besides his wife, he is survived by four sons, Anthony E. Ferdyn and his wife,
Brenda, of Santa Barbara, California, Michael F. Ferdyn and his wife, Jeannie, of Pitts-
field, Paul J. Ferdyn of Pittsfield, and Mark J. Ferdyn and his wife, Michele, of Lanes-
borough; two beloved grandchildren, Amber Starr Ferdyn and Marcus Jay Ferdyn; two
step grandsons, Tyler Lafavre and Hunter Ostrowski, and two step granddaughters,
Jessica Prescott, and Ashley Prescott; a brother, Harry Rustic of Pittsfield; as well as his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Edward and Patricia O'Hearn of Florida, and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Ferdyn was pre-deceased by his brothers and sisters, Frank, Stanley,
Alice, Virginia, and Theresa.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for ANTHONY JOSEPH FERDYN will be Saturday, March 27,
2010, at 9:15 a.m., from DERY FUNERAL HOME with a Liturgy of Christian Burial
at 10:00 a.m., at St. Charles Church celebrated by Rev. Peter A. Gregory, Pastor. Burial
will be at a later date in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr.
Ferdyn may be made to St. Charles Church in care of the Funeral Home, 54 Bradford
Street, Pittsfield.
