Obituary for Annette Moser (Monks)

Annette (Monks) Moser, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend passed away peacefully in Lenox, MA. An innate caregiver and talented artist, she was an expert at making everyone feel at home, loved, and part of the family. All who knew Annette will remember her kindness, creativity, bright spirit, and time spent around her table.

Annette was born in Pittsfield, MA to William W. Monks and Wilhelmina M. (Kirchner) Monks. In her younger years, Annette raised rabbits and tended to a large garden during WWII to help feed her family. A talented seamstress, Annette began making her own clothes at an early age. This was a gift that she would share with her friends and family for her entire life, especially delighting in making dolls and quilts for her grandchildren.

Annette was an honors graduate of Pittsfield High School Class of 1952. She graduated from St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing in 1955 and received the St. Luke’s award for “highest scholastic achievement and excellence in bedside nursing”. Annette worked for Berkshire Nursing Home for 25 years and held the position of Director of Nursing before retiring. She will long be remembered in the local nursing community for her dedication, and the excellent example she set for her co-workers and trainees.

When she met her best friend’s brother, Rene Moser, he became the love of her life. Rene and Annette married in 1956 and spent nearly every day together for 65 years. They had a great partnership.

A summer resident of Hinsdale MA, she was an avid host of family and friends, and attended weekly yoga, quilting, and knitting circles. Annette and Rene spent winters at their Panama City, FL home, where she combed the beaches for treasures for her artworks and loved to be near the water at sunset. She was always working on projects; baking, sewing, quilting, and knitting. She even enjoyed working with the family on many home construction and painting projects. Everyone remembers her as the hardest worker on the crew.

Annette may have left our physical world but will never leave our hearts. Predeceased by her husband, Rene Moser and two brothers, William Monks and David Monks. She is survived by her very loving family: four sons: Stephen (Kathie) Moser, David Peter Moser, Robert Moser, and Paul (Christian) Moser; eight grandchildren: Jillian (Roderick Link) Moser, Gregory (Jessica Carpenter) Moser, and Chelsea Moser, Jason and Matthew Gavris, Eric (Chela) Moser, Heather (Michael) Lee, and Zachary Moser; three great-granddaughters and a caring, extended family and many devoted friends.

FUNERAL NOTICE: There will be no memorial services at this time. In honor and recognition of Annette and Rene’s devout Catholic faith, a Mass and Celebration of Life will be held at their lake house this summer for family and friends to say goodbye and share remembrances of these remarkable people.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Luke’s Alumni Association Nursing Scholarship in Annette’s name, care of Dery-Foley Funeral Home 890 E. Main St, Dalton, MA 01226.
