Obituary for Ann P. Moynihan

Ann P. Moynihan, 1922 – 2014 PITTSFIELD: Ann Phyllis (Clairmont) Moynihan, 92, a former long-time resident of Pittsfield, died on November 7, 2014, at Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center in Lenox, Massachusetts. She moved to Kimball Farms Pine Hill Assisted Living in 2006.
Born in Adams, Massachusetts, on July 26, 1922, daughter of Dorman and Helen (McLaren) Clairmont, Phyllis was educated in Adams schools and graduated from Adams High School in 1940. She entered nurses training the same year at the former Henry W. Bishop Memorial School of Nursing in Pittsfield, and graduated in 1943. On September 18, 1943, she was married at St. Thomas' Church in Adams, to John C. "Jack" Moynihan of Pittsfield, who was then serving in the U.S. Army. Her beloved husband of 61 years died May 15, 2004.
Mrs. Moynihan was employed as a registered nurse at the former Putnam Memorial Hospital in Bennington, Vermont, and, while her husband was stationed in Camp Breckenridge, Kentucky, she was employed at St. Mary's Hospital in Evansville, Indiana. When her husband's 75th Division went overseas, she worked at the U.S. Veteran's Hospital in Newington, Connecticut, until he returned in 1946. While raising her family, she worked part-time at the former Pittsfield General Hospital (now Berkshire Medical Center). She later served as a public school nurse for many years for the City of Pittsfield. Upon retiring, she enjoyed volunteering with the Berkshire Visiting Nurse Association. She was a long-time communicant of the former St. Mary the Morning Star Church in Pittsfield.
Phyllis leaves her six children, Gerald Moynihan and wife, Janet , of Murrysville, Pennsylvania; Patrick Moynihan and wife, Denise, of East Sandwich, Massachusetts; Kevin Moynihan and wife, Miriam, of New Canaan, Connecticut; Sharon Cinney and husband, John , of Ocala, Florida; Judy Yon and husband, Kirk, of Naperville, Illinois; and David Moynihan, of Pittsfield. Beloved Grandmother to Ryan Moynihan, Mark Moynihan, Timothy Moynihan , Colin Moynihan, Tyler Moynihan, Conor Moynihan, Brendan Moynihan , Caragh (Moynihan) Lengle, Christian Yon, Shane Burdick, Andrew Burdick, and John Moynihan, and great-grandmother to Braden and Liam Moynihan, Patrick and Nora Lengle, and Grace Moynihan. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Rita Moynihan, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her grandson Kyle Moynihan. Mrs. Moynihan's family is deeply grateful to the staff at Kimball Farms for their wonderful care and compassion.

FUNERAL NOTICE – Funeral services for Mrs. Ann Phyllis Moynihan will be held Saturday, November 15, 2014, at 8:45 AM from the DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield, Massachusetts followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9:00 AM at St. Charles Church, celebrated by the Rev. Peter Gregory, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will precede the funeral Saturday morning from 8:00 -8:45 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Phyllis' memory be made to the Berkshire Visiting Nurse Association in care of the funeral home.
