Obituary for Ann S. Fischer

ANN SUSAN FISCHER, 75, of 250 Connecticut Avenue, Pittsfield, died suddenly Friday, April 17, 2009 at Saint Charles Church while attending the funeral of her son, Steven F. Fischer, Sr. who died April 13, 2009.
Born in Pittsfield, August 6, 1933, the daughter of the late Francis C. Wilde and
Evelyn Perry Wilde Garlin, she attended Pittsfield schools and was a 1951 Pro
Merito graduate of Pittsfield High School.
Mrs. Fischer began her career during her senior year in high school, serving as
Part-time secretary to the late Charles Murphy, Director of Guidance at Pittsfield High
School. Following graduation, she worked at The Berkshire Eagle as a bookkeeper from
1951 to 1953. In 1957, she served as a clerk in the Office of the City Clerk, and in 1958
was appointed a Junior-Clerk Stenographer at North Junior High School (now Reid
Middle School).
In 1966, Mrs. Fischer was promoted to Senior Clerk-Stenographer to the late
James P. Reynolds, Superintendent of Schools, and served five more superintendents.
She retired as Confidential Secretary to John A. Kreiger in February 1997, having served
for 39 years in the Pittsfield School Department.
An accomplished musician, like her mother, Mrs. Evelyn Garlin, Mrs. Fischer
had been Musical Director and Piano accompanist for the Dalton Rotary Follies for
thirteen years and the Hillcrest Hospital fund-raiser, "A Touch of Class", for eight years.
At the time of her death, she was the organist for St. Agnes Church in Dalton.
She had been a long-time organist at the former St. Francis Xavier Church.
Mrs. Fischer was a communicant of St. Charles Church. She had been a
communicant of the former St. Francis Xavier Church and a communicant of the
former St. Mary the Morning Star Church.
She was a former member of the Pittsfield Educational 52-Week Secretaries'
Association, and had been a member of the Women's City Bowling League for many
years. She had also been a former member of the Sons of Italy Itam Lodge 564. She
enjoyed taking trips to the Connecticut casinos, knitting, cross stitch, daily crossword puzzles and was an avid reader.
Her husband, Charles E. Fischer, whom she married May 24, 1952, in the former
Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, died September 21, 2007.
Mrs. Fischer leaves her loving daughter Lynn F. Noel and her husband, Jeffrey, of Pittsfield; a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Ann Launt Fischer of Pittsfield;
and beloved Mimi to her two grandchildren, Steven F. Fischer, Jr. and his wife,
Tannille, and Sara Ann Fischer and her partner Dustin Clark and to her great grandson, Evan Joseph Fisher. Also survived by a brother in law, Richard Fischer and sister in law, Claire Grady and by several nieces and nephews.

FUNERAL NOTICE:
Funeral services for ANN SUSAN WILDE FISCHER, who died Friday, April 17,
will be Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at 9:15 a.m., from DERY FUNERAL HOME,
with a Concelebrated Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. at St. Charles Church celebrated by Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor and the Rev. Christopher Malatesta, pastor of Saint Agnes
Church. Burial will follow in the family plot at Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will
be Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers,
contributions in memory of Mrs. Fischer may be made to the Saint Charles Church Elevator Fund in care of the
Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
