Obituary for Amelia "Amy" Wahl

Amelia “Amy” Marie Wahl, 99, formerly of Hinsdale, MA and Long Island, NY, passed away January 2, 2021 at Wingate at Melbourne in Pittsfield, MA.

Born in New York, New York on September 16, 1921, she was the daughter of the late William and Amelia Adams Mannhaupt.

She attended schools in New York City and Brown’s Business School in Queens, NY.

Amelia married Otto H. Wahl on August 2, 1947. He predeceased her on October 20, 1993.

She was the co-owner and proprietor of Munson Bakery in Franklin Square in Long Island, NY for twenty-three years. She then went to work for three years at Combine Camera Company as a bookkeeper in West Hempsted, NY.

Mrs. Wahl moved to Hinsdale in 1986, where she was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church in Hinsdale and a member of their Rosary Sodality. She was a past member of the Hinsdale Lion’s Club and the past President of the Hinsdale-Peru Senior Club. She was also a member of the Hinsdale Council on Aging, and a volunteer at the Boy Scouts of Dalton, MA.

Survivors include her sons, Robert O. Wahl and wife Audrey of Miller Place, NY, and Richard J. Wahl of Norman, OK; daughter, Dorothy Hague and husband Jonathan of Worthington, MA; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Wahl was predeceased by her grandson, Tate Otto Wahl; four brothers, William, Joseph, John, and Francis Mannhaupt, and two sisters, Helen Taylor and Genevieve Cordomeyer.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A memorial mass will be held at St. Patrick’s Church in Hinsdale in the Spring. Burial will be held at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in in Hinsdale in the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to St. Patrick’s Church or the Alzheimer’s Association in care of DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, 890. E. Main St, Dalton, MA 01226.
