Obituary for Alice J. Metropoulos

ALICE J. METROPOULOS, 94, of 23 Dorchester Avenue, Pittsfield, died Monday, February 21, 2011, at Kindred Hospital in Springfield.
Born in Kalamata, Greece, on September 4, 1916, the daughter of Janneto and.
Fotini Carabellos Polydouris, she was educated in Kalmata, Greece, schools.
She was a homemaker. Mrs. Metropoulos was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church since
1944 and a member of The Ladies Philoptochos Society. She loved people and volunteered her time to help people. Over the years, she served as a district organizer for American Cancer Society fund drives and the Polio drives. She had also been a member of the Parent Teacher Association at the former Tucker School.
Her husband, John G. Metropoulos, whom she married June 25, 1944, died May
15, 1980. Mrs. Metropoulos is survived by a daughter, Matina Metropoulos of Pittsfield and a son, William J. Metropoulos, of Springfield.


FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for ALICE J. METROPOULOS will be held Friday, February 25, at 10:00 a.m., at St. George Greek Orthodox Church with Rev. Fr. John G. Maheras, Protoprebyter, officiating. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at DERY FUNERAL HOME. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Metropoulos may be made to the Alice J. Metropoulos Memorial Fund at St. George Greek Orthodox Church in care of the Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
