Obituary for Alfred E. Hansen

Alfred "Al" E. Hansen 1936 - 2009 PITTSFIELD Alfred "Al" E. Hansen, passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at the age of 72. He was born to Louis H. Hansen Sr., and Emma T. Walz Hansen, in Bronx, N.Y., Aug. 5, 1936. Al was a proud supporter of The Disabled American Veterans, and served in the Marine Corps Reserves from 1958 to 1964. Employed at the Schaefer-Eaton paper mill in west Pittsfield, from 1959 to 1988, he also served as the Union's Chief Shop Steward. Al recieved his associates degree of Culinary Arts from Berkshire Community College in 1990. A chef at Kimball Farms until his retirement in 2005, he was well known for his fabulous soups. A native New Yorker, avid Giants and Yankee fan, Al enjoyed trips to New York, searching for the perfect pizza doug, and visiting the Botanical Gardens. His other intrests included playing the French horn in The Interstatesmen Drum and Bugle Corps., he also enjoyed cooking, gardening, carpentry, model trains and his home theater. Outside of his many hobbies he most loved spending time with his six grandchildren and his family. Al leaves his former wife Virginia Hansen, their four daughters and grandchildren; Michele E. Hansen, of McKinney, Texas, and mother of Cooper, Ethan and Olivia, Stacy E. Greenler, and husband, Jeffrey, of Georgetown, Mass., and their children Kyle, Patrick and Shane. Alison E. Hansen, and husband, Gary DuBois of Austin, Texas, and Robin E. Hansen of Plano, Texas; his brother, Louis H. Hansen, Jr., and wife, Kimela of Dalton; three nieces, a nephew, and his longtime companion, Wendy Carpenter. He was predeceased by his sister, Anita Hansen, of New Lebanon, N.Y., who died Feb. 2, 2009.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A celebration of the life of Alfred E. Hansen will be held Saturday, April 25th 2009, from 1 to 5 p.m., at Zucchini's Restaurant 1331 North St. Pittsfiled. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital Cancer Research, in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield MA (443-9151).
