Obituary for Albert M. Shoemaker Sr.

Albert Martin Shoemaker, Sr., 84, of 2240 Swamp Road, Richmond, died Monday,
July 13, 2015, at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Columbus, Ohio, on February 25, 1931, the son of Russell and Gladys Tennant Shoemaker , he was a graduate of Ohio schools.
A United States Navy veteran, Mr. Shoemaker first served from November 1948 until May 1969. He re-enlisted in April 1951, served three and a half years overseas aboard the
USS Wasp, he enjoyed talking about his time on the USS Long Beach.
Mr. Shoemaker was employed as a maintenance man by General Electric Company
where he worked for 23 years. Following his retirement, he worked at the National Archives building.
He was a Red Sox and NASCAR fan. He also enjoyed reading and doing crossword
puzzles. Mr. Shoemaker leaves his wife of 55 years, the former Mary E. Harrington.
He is also survived by two sons, Albert M. Shoemaker, Jr., and his wife, Paula, of St.
Louis, Missouri, and John Shoemaker and his wife, Melinda, of Garden City, Michigan; a sister,
Gloria Wright of Gahanna, Ohio; four grandchildren, James Shoemaker, Amanda Beste, Andrea Shoemaker, and David Shoemaker, and two great grandchildren, and two step grandchildren Mallory and
Trent. Also survived is Albert's former daughter –in-law Anne Fortier who has remained a friend and helper to the family.

FUNERAL NOTICE: At the request of the family Services for Mr. Shoemaker will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
