Obituary for Achilles Pannozzo

ACHILLES 'BLACKIE' PANNOZZO, 85, of 52 Linden Street, Pittsfield, a longtime resident of Pittsfield, died Sunday, April 12, at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Naples, Italy, November 19, 1923, a son of Antonio and Antonina
Carnevale Pannozzo, he was educated in Pittsfield schools. After his father passed
away, he helped raise his brothers.
He served in the United States Army from where he was honorably discharged
on November 19, 1943.
Mr. Pannozzo was employed by General Electric Company as a Crane Operator
in the Power Transformer Department. He retired in 1983 with 30 years service.
Prior to G.E., he had worked at the Elmvale Mill and the Berkshire Mill, and
had also been a barber on North Street for ten years. He was a communicant of the former Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
Mr. Pannozzo was a member of IUE Local 255, and a member of the G.E.
Quarter Century and Pensioners Clubs. He was a member of the Ralph Froio Senior Center where he enjoyed going, and was a life member of the Polish Community Club.
He enjoyed fishing, gardening, politics, cooking, boxing, and socializing with
friends. His late wife, Antoinette DeVirgilio DiMassimo Pannozzo, whom he married
August 31, 1968, died August 16, 2007/
Mr. Panozzo leaves a stepson, Larry DiMassimo of Flowery Branch, Georgia;
four stepdaughters, Dorothy Vankord of Safety Harbor, Florida, Jean Lenihan of
Pittsfield, Betty Scullary of Port Charlotte, Florida, and Diana Sullivan of Pittsfield;
three brothers, John Pannozzo of Pittsfield, Louis Panozzo of Becket, and Anthony
Pannozzo of Charlotte, North Carolina, 21 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and
one great great grandchild, as well as his friends, Gloria Gennari, and Kathleen Conners.
He was pre-deceased by a brother, Dominic Pannozzo, late of Pittsfield; a step-
son, James DiMassimo, and a stepdaughter, Pauline Lenihan who died in 1987.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for ACHILLES 'BLACKIE' PANNOZZO, who died Sunday,
April 12, will be Wednesday, April 15, at 11:00 a.m., at DERY FUNERAL HOME with
Rev. Peter A. Gregory, Pastor of St. Charles Church, officiating. Burial will follow in
St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will precede the service beginning at 10:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Pannozzo may be made to the
Emphysema Foundation of the American Lung Association in care of the Funeral Home,
54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
