Obituary for Elmer W. Johnson

Elmer W. Johnson, 68, of 15 High St. in Pittsfield passed away on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at his home. Born on August 24, 1947 in Fall River, MA he was the son of the late Lawrence and Eleanor Mosley Johnson. A longtime Pittsfield resident, he was educated in Fall River schools and was a 1965 graduate of Mt. Everett Regional High School. He went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He also graduated from Berkshire Community College and the former North Adams State College with a degree in liberal arts. Elmer worked as a bartender for over twenty years in the Boston area. At one time he also worked as a carpenter and at area department and market stores. He retired in 1996. Elmer was a member of the Pittsfield American Legion, Lanesboro V.F.W. and the Disabled American Veterans of Pittsfield Chapter #15. He was an avid collector of baseball and football cards and he enjoyed dogs. He leaves his sister; Barbara Higgins of Gt. Barrington, MA, three nephews and nine great nieces and great nephews. He was predeceased by a brother; the late Lawrence Johnson.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A memorial service for Elmer W. Johnson of Pittsfield who died March 15, 2016 will be held Monday at 2:00 PM at the DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield. Military honors by the United States Army will follow the service. Burial will be private. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations in memory of Elmer may be made to the Disabled American Veterans of Pittsfield Chapter # 15 in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St. Pittsfield, MA 01201.
