Obituary for Carol Mercedes Shea

Carol Mercedes Shea, age 84, of Montgomery Avenue, passed away on Thursday, August 10, 2017. She was born on January 26, 1933 in Pittsfield, the daughter of the late Bernhardt and Helen Jacobs Diestel. She was educated in Pittsfield schools and was a 1951 graduate of St. Joseph High School. She then continued her education at the former Berkshire Business College.
Mrs. Shea was employed by Crane and Company as a Supervisor in the Sample Center in Dalton from 1981 until her retirement in 1999. She had also worked for Berkshire Medical Center as an admitting officer in the Admissions Office from 1980 until 1997. Most recently, Carol had been employed by Harry’s Supermarket, retiring in 2013. She was a communicant of St. Charles Church where she was in charge of Bingo; she was also a member of the Rosary Sodality at St. Charles Church.
Carol married Richard C. Shea on May 7, 1955; he died on May 17, 1997.
Mrs. Shea is survived by her two daughters: Christine A. Shea of Pittsfield; and Regina H. Bernardo of Lanesboro; her two sons: Richard B. Shea of Pittsfield, and Michael D. Shea of Pittsfield; seven grandchildren: Ryan Shea, Danielle Shea, Michael Shea, Jr., Ashley Shea, Jeremy Shea, Jennifer Jacobs, and Sara M. Bernardo; and four great-grandchildren: Dakota Andrews, Abigail Andrews, Paige Andrews, and Jack Pladdys.

FUNERAL NOTICE Calling hours will be held MONDAY, August 14, 2017, from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield. A liturgy of Christian Burial will be held TUESDAY at 10:00 AM at St. Charles Church. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Sisters of St. Joseph for their ministry, in care of the funeral home.
