Hubert (Issy) S. Salvini, 88, of 7 Woodside Avenue, Dalton, died Sunday, July 2, at
2017, at his home.

Born in Becket on December 19, 1928, the son of Arthur C. and Agnes (Chandler)Salvini, he was a 1946 graduate of Chester High School.

A Korean War veteran, Mr. Salvini was inducted into the United States Army on January 2, 1951, served eleven months overseas. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal (T) on October 14, 1952.

Mr. Savlini had been employed by serveral area paper mills and at Beloit Jones before assuming the position as Maintainence Superintendent at Camps Becket Chimney Corners YMCA from which he retired in 1992

Active in the Town of Becket for many years, Mr. Salvini served on the Board of Selectmen and as Town Moderator. He was a member of the Becket Fire Department for thirty years and served as its Chief for twenty five years. He also chaired the Becket Bicentennial Committee as well as the Town’s celebration of the national bicentennial in 1976.

He was a member of the previous Becket Grange, and had been a member of the Chester Oder of Redmen. He was a Past Master of the Globe Masonic Lodge and a Past Member of Morning Star Chapter No 217, Oder of Eastern Star.

“Issy” was “Jack of All Trades” and could master, fix, or make anything. He loved hunting, fishing, his “shop” in Becket and his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mr. Salvini leaves his wife, the former Susan Tucker, whom he married April 4, 1959.

He is also survived by three sons, Steven R. Salvini of Becket, William E. Salvini of Dalton, and John R. Salvini of Lanesboro; a brother, William A. Salvini of Pittsfield; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE:

A memorial service for Huber S. Salvini will be held Saturday, July 8, at 12:00 noon at the First Congregational Church of Dalton with Rev. Henry Pascual, Pastor, officiating. A private graveside service will be held in North Becket Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to BCCYMCA annual fund in support of camperships, in care of DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, 890 East Main Street, Dalton.
